I. Letters and postcards received by Hincksman from the painter Jeffrey Smart, 1970-1988 (ca. 52 items). Mostly written from Arezzo, Italy, the letters refer inter alia to the activities of mutual friends and acquaintances, Smart's creative work, exhibitions, relations with the Australian National Gallery and other galleries, travels in Australia, Europe, Turkey, Japan, South Africa and elsewhere, arrangements for meetings with Hincksman in London, Arezzo and Canberra and general comments on art and artists. II. Copy of a letter from Hincksman to Smart, 29th Oct. 1988. III. Four photographs of Smart and Hermes de Zan, Turkey, 1981. IV. Catalogues of exhibitions of works of Smart, 1967-87. V. Newspaper cuttings comprising reviews and articles about Smart. VI. Copies of "Mode und wohnen" and "Country homes and interiors" containing articles about Smart's home at Arezzo, Tuscany. VII. Letters received by Hincksman from Hal Missingham, Justin O'Brien, Ermes de Zan, 1963-88. VIII. Catalogues, cuttings and photocopies.

Painter. Born in Adelaide, Jeffrey Smart has lived in Italy for many years. He has exhibited regularly since 1957. See Alan McCulloch 'The Encyclopaedia of Australian Art'. Michael (David Michael) Shannon, painter, was born at Kapunda, S. A., in 1927 and died in 1993.
